What is Trauma? Understanding Its Impact on the Nervous System
When most people hear the word "trauma," they think of major, life-threatening events. But trauma is actually much broader than that. It can be understood as any event—big or small—that disrupts the nervous system’s ability to return to a balanced state, known as homeostasis. When the nervous system can’t bounce back, it begins to react defensively to even minor stressors, activating survival responses like fight-or-flight, freeze, or shutdown.
This imbalance is sustainable for short-term stress, but whem it becomes a long-term pattern, it can leave you feeling burned out, exhausted, anxious, and fighting symptoms on multiple fronts.
How Trauma Recovery Supports Nervous System Health
Understanding trauma from this perspective opens up new ways of healing. By focusing on techniques that help the nervous system find balance, like sensory modulation, foundational nutrition, and other whole-being supports, you can guide your body back to a state of restoration and functionality.
