IS THE NERVOUS SYSTEM WORTH THE HYPE?
Is it just me, or is ✨nervous system regulation ✨ all the rage lately? It seems like everyone is talking about it these days, but does it really measure up to all the attention it's getting? In this blog, I'll share my two cents and tell you how you can work with your nervous system— so you can decide for yourself.
Since my half dozen or so chronic conditions are now in remission, I'm going to say YES, absolutely. The nervous system is foundational to our health and so much more than just a trend—it’s a key component to long-term healing. It’s the control center that keeps our other systems in balance and determines how we handle stress, whether from daily life or past trauma.
When the nervous system is dysfunctional, it can lead to a range of symptoms: anxiety, depression, chronic pain, fatigue, digestive issues, irregular heart rate, autoimmune conditions, and much more. By emphasizing nervous system health and regulation, we can move away from merely managing symptoms and help the body return to balance—making remission a likely outcome. For those with chronic conditions related to nervous system dysfunction, (e.g., POTS/dysautonomia, Lyme, ME/CFS, Long Covid, etc.) regulation is especially important to break the survival-mode cycle and give the body a chance to recover.
However, it must be said, that while nervous system regulation can be a huge piece of the puzzle for some, it may only be a small part for others—and, no matter who you are, it will never be the entire picture.
